Biography

I received my BSc in Physics from the University of Crete, Greece in 2017. During the undergraduate programme, I joined the Ultrafast Laser Micro and Nano Processing Laboratory at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (IESL-FORTH) where I investigated the interaction of ultrafast laser pulses with two-dimensional materials. Throughout my doctoral studies, I joined the Functional Nanomaterials and Applications Laboratory at the University of Southampton performing research on the design of nanomaterials for oligonucleotide detection. In 2022, I graduated with a PhD in Physics from the University of Southampton. Then I joined the Ultrafast Laser Micro and Nano Processing Laboratory at IESL-FORTH as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow investigating the development and characterisation of nanostructures for gas sensing applications. Since 2024 I have been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Gizeli Group within the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (IMBB-FORTH) focusing on the chemical synthesis, characterisation, and surface functionalisation of nanostructures tailored for genetic and immune-assays to detect harmful algae and toxins, respectively.
