Biography
With a BSc in Agriculture and a PhD in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology, my professional career is divided in academia and industry.
I started out as a researcher in Aristotelian University working in the Biochemistry laboratory on pesticide/insecticide identification in agricultural products and then in the Food Technology laboratory developing methods for detecting milk product adulteration, milk safety, innovative milk product development as well as coordinating the European Milk Quality program in NW Greece. Subsequently, I held several research positions Academia, as post-doctoral researcher at Imperial College, London, UK & UCLA, Los Angeles, USA, where I conducted research in Mycobacteria for the development of a new vaccine against tuberculosis and in Molecular Parasitology for the elucidation of mechanisms for programmed cell death of cancer cells, as well as the role of LPG in host immune system evasion.
My career in the industry is based on my deep scientific and market knowledge on immunology and comprises more that 20 years of experience in several marketing and sales positions in the pharmaceutical sector. This equipped me with strong expertise in launching and managing portfolios of blockbuster brands, strategy development and execution, market evaluation, business case and plans, event organization and communication, execution of prize awarded public awareness campaigns, web campaigns, project management, personnel development and sales.
I am currently heading the EU-funded coordination and support action DxHub. The project concerns innovation in diagnostics within the Cretan and Portuguese ecosystems.
